Rome, Cave Spring, and the county around them

Floyd County has exactly two incorporated cities, and it is worth knowing which two, because it decides who issues a permit. Rome is the county seat and where the business is based. Cave Spring, out to the southwest, is the other one. Everywhere else in the county answers to the county itself: Lindale five miles south of Rome, Armuchee to the north, Shannon, Coosa and Silver Creek. None of those is a town in the legal sense, however much they are places in every other sense, and all of them are ordinary territory rather than a special trip.

Where a permit is needed, it comes from whichever city or county the address sits in, Rome or unincorporated Floyd County, and getting that right is part of the job.

There is a second thing about this county that is genuinely unusual, and it turns up before any of the electrical work does. Armuchee appears only as a statistical subdivision covering a large slice of north Floyd County, which is not the community anybody means by the name. What it changes is the first question, because a town name here can be a real answer to where do you live and still not be an answer to which government the address sits under. The road name settles it faster than the town name does, and on this county that is worth saying out loud rather than working out on the day.
